Amendment 1
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The 5 Freedoms
The first amendment protects the five freedoms:
- the freedom of speech (the right to express ideas)
- the freedom to religion (the right to practice/believe any religion)
- the freedom to press (the right to print/publicize ideas)
- the freedom to assembly (the right to gather or join in groups)
- the freedom to petition (the right to address grievances)
